Nomadic duo OUT of ABINGDON release RED DIRT TRACKS

For 3 years now guitar and double bass playing duo OUT of ABINGDON, Warwick and Tina, have been living in their converted house truck, touring the vast, magnificent land of OZ sharing their soulful, acoustic, lounge music.

From Barngarla Country, Port Lincoln in SA, through Wilyakali Country, Broken Hill in Western NSW to Rinyirru Country in Cape York, Far North QLD, their travels have taken them along many red dirt tracks…

OUT of ABINGDON will release their long awaited 4th studio album RED DIRT TRACKS with a CD launch at the BUG - Brisbane Unplugged Folk/Acoustic Music Night at the NEW FARM BOWLS CLUB on Tuesday APRIL 2nd

‘The BUG was where OUT of ABINGDON launched our first album in 2011’ says Tina ‘and we want to celebrate with our hometown community before heading North on another regional QLD tour.’

RED DIRT TRACKS was recorded a few songs at a time when they stopped into Meanjin with long term friend and collaborator, award winning engineer Mark Smith of Real Productions. ‘Mark recorded us live and acoustically, capturing the rawness and intimacy of campsite jam sessions, where we wrote these tunes’ says Warwick ‘the songs were inspired by places we’ve had the privilege to spend time, stories we’ve heard, by shaking up the status quo, even butterflies and blue days…’

’We’re incredibly grateful to have had Aria award winning artist Dave Steel add some subtle and beautiful slide guitar work to ‘Red Dirt, Salt Bush and Daisies’ a moving song written to honour the adventurous spirit of a woman who had passed away alone in her travelling home, at a roadside rest stop outside of Broken Hill.

‘Playing with Dave Steel at Black Mountain Unplugged Music festival in Far North Queensland has been one of our musical highlights, along with supporting Australian music legend Vince Jones at a South Coast NSW Pottery… and jamming on stage with luminaries Phil Manning and Neil Murray’ they both agree ‘is part of the joy of playing small festivals and connecting with the wider music community’.

‘One More Chance’, the atmospheric video single from the album was recorded by ‘Black Box Studios’ team in a rural Far North Queensland Hall 'on a day hotter than a vindaloo’ says Warwick. It’s rhythmic groove underpins thought provoking, topical lyrics.

RED DIRT TRACKS’ stripped back guitar, double bass and vocal blend is a grooving, soothing, sonic elixir in amongst a bustling soundscape.

'Very cool, very smooth ... these guys are fascinating!'

Dear Diary and readers,

it has been over 3 months since our last live gig…. we are suffering withdrawals!

… we’re missing the connection music brings in a live face to face situation….the joy of playing live and in the moment!

Happily though, we have been locked down with each other so each have our best musical playmate and time on our hands to practise and write … we look forward to bringing our refreshed sounds out into the world when the time is right for us to take to the road and small venues and outdoor spaces again.

AND breaking news is….

July is right around the corner and we have just been invited to play at Spaghetti and Jazz, our ol’ favourite date night…. FRIDAY JULY 10th - check our show listing for all the details!

We are looking forward to seeing you all!!

ANOTHER STORY . ALBUM LAUNCH AND TOUR .

Our brand new album is a collection of original songs and musings written around our river city home by the Story Bridge so we're proud to be launching ANOTHER STORY at the Brisbane Jazz Club on Friday September 15th!

We've collaborated in writing tales of everyday urban life, love and dreams .....expect big bass grooves, blitzing guitar, vocal interplay and just a little body percussion we continue to explore our unique acoustic styling.

Steve Robin recorded the 9 songs live over 3 days (and 3 bottles of wine) at The Barn Recording Studio, a beautifully converted dairy shed in Plainlands, Queensland and then mixed and mastered our songs to enhance our minimalist acoustic approach to music.

Digital downloads are available NOW through our Bandcamp page!!!

SUMMER IS SO SWEET

10.02.2016

Well we're into February and this year has been huge already! Our LONG HOT SUMMER TOUR through NSW & ACT was fantastic .... we loved playing at Mudgee Mudsling Music Festival & the beautiful Hotel Blue in Katoomba! Illawarra Folk Festival was amazing - we're were touched by the brilliant response we received there! Nethercote Music Factory and community markets were delightful, the Hippo Co in Canberra was a wild whiskey soaked affair. Then to top it all off playing to a packed house at Milton Theatre with local stars 'the Escalators' to launch their 'From the Hip' CD was awesome AND we did it again the next night at the Django Bar in Sydney! Our music went down a treat & especially our new songs (so we're well on the way towards a new album...) and we're really grateful for all the love and support! We loved sharing time with friends, making new friends, hearing new sounds and exploring the beautiful National Parks & wilderness areas in this part of our amazing country.

So, all very exciting and we're fully charged up for the next exciting adventures - in March we'll be heading back South (briefly) to Kiama Jazz & Blues Festival NSW! It's our first time playing at this great event in another beautiful place - sweet!

AND... we're right now cooking up a re-run tour to EUROPE & UK (after our last minute change of plans in 2015... things are looking up again) in June/July with gigs confirmed in Berlin and Edinburgh so far...

You'll still find us out & about at some fine events locally too - check out our show listings, social media pages or join our mailing list...

Cheers,

Tina and Warwick
